Water Supply Sanitation and 

Hygiene Project Dawe District

 

City Dawe is a district of Zone 5, in Afar region, which lies 640 km from Addis Ababa. The district enjoyed a historical reputation “Sultanate”. The construction of Pit Latrine and Water Point has been achieved in five administrative center of the city Dawe at "Kebele".


Due to lack of school facilities, water and toilet problem the dropout rate has been increase year to year in Five school of the district . As a result 328 male and 2238 female students affected by serious water problem because of no water in the school area. In addition to, in the case of pit-latrine problem six schools in the district are highly affected. Due to these , Male 6018 and female 2868 students forced to learn in difficult condition without pit latrine.


According, the teaching and learning condition in the District is becoming poor, the school environment is not good for students. The students are not comfortable as a result the quality of education, number of students learning interest are shown to declined.


To improve the condition of student learning, we implemented this Hygiene Program.


5016 Female and 9846 Male stduents will be benefiting directly from this project. In addition, 42.732 people will be benefited indirectly as is can be considered as social capital.


Our main partner is Japan embassy and Construction Company.
